In this Talk, we will explore Jung’s encounter with his discarded and blind feminine, and Her development throughout The Red Book.
We will also explore how this core aspect of The Red Book has been neglected—both by Jung himself, as his understanding of the Feminine became eroded again by social norms, and by scholars since its publication. In this time of renewed feminist awakening, perhaps the most critical social work to be done by all of us is to understand the way the Feminine has been devalued and discarded within our own psyches, and how She can be recovered and revalued.

As a Jungian Analyst, Suki has worked with Fairy Tales which she calls "collective dreamscapes". She also works with Past Life Regression, Biodynamic Massage, and Hypnosis. She believes in trusting "the symbols that spontaneously arise from the depths of psyche".

In this talk I invite you to reflect with me on the many ways in which the imaginal can nourish our psyches, enabling us to heal and thrive both individually and collectively. From time immemorial human beings have expressed themselves not only through language, but through images. Visual expression is natural to our experience of ourselves, each other, and the world we inhabit. Young children instinctively draw. Pictures arise spontaneously in the mind. And of course, the unconscious speaks to us in the symbolic language of our dreams.

We will look at how regression can delve deeply into our life stories and shed light on the beliefs and emotions that govern our lives. This discussion will include current, past life and interlife regression, considering how these can open up more choice and freedom in the present and offer scope for individuation.

Psychoanalysis and Analytic Psychology have always stood on the edge of contemporary culture. As a Jew in an increasingly Anti-Semitic world, (Freud) might well have needed to understate the collective dimension. Jung … found … a place for the mystical and for the collective. This would never be an easy place, but living through the turbulent times that included two world wars and the times that led up to them, his willingness to engage was a willingness to look at territory that is deeply disturbing. In hindsight, Jung’s claim to have seen the rise of Nazism foreshadowed in dream work [Jung 1947] sounds brilliant and prescient. At the time, it must have been terrifying; topical too in today’s world.

This talk will consider the unconscious patterns which run through families and generations of families, as one generation inherits, responds and reacts to the complexes and archetypal energies of the previous generation – and even of the generation before that – parents, grandparents and in some cases, great-grandparents. Melanie Rein will draw on the symbolic nature of the genogram, or psychological genealogy tree, exploring its connection to the Tree of Life and its value as a visual image for eliciting, revealing and deepening insights into family and ancestral patterning.
Melanie Rein (PhD) is a training analyst and accredited supervisor with the Guild of Analytical Psychologists (G.A.P.) and a member of the Independent Group of Analytical Psychologists (IGAP).

Diane is currently interested in Jung’s visual imagery in The Red Book, and is one of the leaders of the London Liber Novus reading seminars organised by The Circle of Analytical Psychology. Her essay on Jung’s mandala sketches, “Intimations of the Self”, was published by Norton in The Art of C.G. Jung, 2019.
Thanks to the publication of The Red Book (2009) and The Art of C.G. Jung (2019), we now have a substantial corpus of the visual images that Jung created whilst he was concurrently developing analytical psychology between 1913 and 1923.
In my workshop/seminar, I will identify several previously unrecognised representations of two of Jung’s most important personifications, the ‘dominant fathers’ Philemon and Ka. With their identities revealed, it becomes possible to trace their roles in some of Jung’s artistic works that include the image of the cross-quartered circle and sphere (which Jung called the quadratura circuli), his prime example of the reconciling symbol of the creation of the new god, and of individuation. Powerpoint images will be included and there will be ample time for discussion.

The artist, shaman and analyst are all concerned with the evolution of space; either fighting for the redemption of the mythic space of art, or unconsciously serving the powers that are against it. The modern artist uses the empty space, the shaman the sacred space, and the analyst, the psychic space.
This seminar will consist of an IFS experiential demonstration, followed by questions and discussion regarding the presence of Active Imagination, Shaminism, Soma, and Self, in the work.

This workshop will guide participants on an enquiry into their own nature through being in nature. We will walk out in nature, and look at how we exist symbolically and relationally within the environment, how therapy might work outside the therapy room and how an understanding of our place in the natural world may help address the urgent ecological challenges of our times.
