More Information

Diane Finiello Zervas, Jungian Training Analyst, IGAP, Educator, Author, Private Practice, London. She specialises in the interface between creativity, analysis and the arts.  Diane is is one of the founders of the London Red Book reading seminars organised by The Circle of Analytical Psychology.

In this Talk, Diane will discuss Jung’s visual imagery in The Red Book and other artistic works as a creative process, building from visual simplicity to symbolic complexity. By means of creative imagination and the transcendent function, these works created a new visual world in service of individuation and the new god image, and provided Jung with a new aesthetic foundation for his subsequent written theories.

Images will be key throughout the Talk, and Diane will give an in-depth introduction to specific images, which are intimately connected to Jung's journey.  She will first follow Jung on his visual journey in The Red Book, and then conclude with two of his most important personifications, the ‘dominant fathers’ Philemon and Ka, tracing their roles in some of Jung’s later artistic works that include the image of the cross-quartered circle and sphere, his prime example of the reconciling symbol of the creation of the new god, and of individuation.

Powerpoint images will be included and there will be ample time for discussion at the end.

For the past few years, Diane has explored Jung’s visual imagery in The Red Book, and her essay on Jung’s mandala sketches, “Intimations of the Self”, was published by Norton in The Art of C.G. Jung, 2019; and two new articles have recently been published in Phanês.
