Jung and Kundalini: Reaching for the Core of the Mountain

Jung saw the kundalini process as a universal phenomenon driven by the Self - a parallel in Eastern psychology to individuation in Westerners. I will tentatively ask whether we might be able to speak of a ‘kundalini complex’ (as distinct from the energy itself) as a bridge on the interface between narratives attempting to describe core human experience. Might kundalini as it activates our complexes be a non-conceptual, embodied dimension of individuation? Finally - do we need to be careful as we enter powerful non-ordinary states of consciousness through meditation, breathwork, use of psychedelics, or by other means?

Biography: Jeannet Weurman holds a diploma in Person Centred counselling and groupwork and trained with Stan Grof in Holotropic Breathwork facilitation. Jeannet has recently completed a two year Diploma course in Depth Relational Process (psychedelic assisted therapy) with the Institute of Psychedelic Therapy. She helps facilitate psychedelic integration circles in Brighton and Cambridge and is a volunteer guide on the Imperial College PsilOCD trail. Her other interest is developing a trauma-informed approach in hospice and palliative care through the Trauma-Informed Palliative Care Project. Jeannet is a retired social worker. Her last social work job was as Senior Social Worker at Arthur Rank Hospice in Cambridge. Previously she worked in adult mental health, older people’s services, homelessness, chronic exclusion, and community development.
